I was craving birria tacos and this was one of the only locations near me that sold it. It wasn't the best I have had, but I would come back again if I was craving it! Birria Tacos - The meat was flavorful and paired well with the cheese, onion, and cilantro. I also enjoyed the spicy salsa which cut the fattiness of the meat. However, I wish that it was crispier. This meal was on the heavier side. Overall, these birria tacos were pretty good. I would come here again!

I've been in the mood for Taquería-style Mexican food for a couple days now. San Marcos is full of Taquerías, and most of them are closed Mondays! Not just here either, everywhere. So much so that I've nicknamed any business that's closed Mondays as operating under "Taquería hours!" Mind you, Taquerías are not the same as Tex-Mex! Completely different experiences & one cannot judge a place like El Charro vs a place like Chuys, Papasitos, or Texican Cafe... I haven't been to El Charro since college, but they're the only Taquería open on a Monday & I'm glad it's still there. I don't do that many Yelp reviews anymore, but this place is so underrated & deserves to be recognized! The Carnitas-a-la-Mexicana plate definitely slapped! The carnitas itself was a bit dry, but the mixture of the stewed tomatoes, grilled onions, & jalapeños really does miracles here! I wasn't a huge fan of the Salsa Verde (wayyyy top tangy), but the Salsa Rojo... hell yeah! That added to the carnitas really tied everything together! Is this my favorite Taquería? Not really, I got other places I definitely frequent way more than here. But being open 7 days a week, I'm a fan & this place has my respect because of it!

We found ourselves a little hungry on a trip to San Marcos and needed something to hold us over until we got back to Austin. My trusty Yelp app pointed me in the direction of this little gem. It's fun to discover these type of mom and pop shops in small towns. I don't remember exactly what time of the day we were there, but they had a steady flow of customers inside so service was slightly slow. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Food wise, what was supposed to be a stop for something light turned into us ordering full blown meals. I usually order a torta at these type of places along with a taco or two. I ordered just that and it hit the spot for sure. The rest of my party got a burrito, pastor and some more tacos. Everyone enjoyed their food. The sauces were very tasty as well. It packed some heat! Overall, a solid option away from the chains in the area. Would come back!

Came here to meet a longtime no see friend and his family. This is about mid-point b/t ATX and Seguin, convenient location from tubing. First time in the restaurant was shocked how small and questionable looking...BUT let me tell y'all. The food was great! Smell delicious and taste yummy! We all left happy! The girl who greeted us was friendly.

This is one of my favorite spots in San Marcos. The staff is excellent, I've always felt welcome and taken care of. I'm a fairly picky eater (unfortunate, working on it), and I've never had something I didn't like here. I generally get the cheese enchiladas, the chile relleno. The beans + rice are amazing too! Their agua fresca is lovely too, I really like the horchata and the jamaica. I'm a vegetarian, so I can only really comment on the non-meat options! But when I've brought meat eaters, the general opinion is that the pork is good, and the beef is a bit greasy. So do with that what you will! Overall, love this place!! Absolutely recommend!
